III. Road Information System:

Client: Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC), India

The RIS project was undertaken by Micro Documents Automation (I) Pvt. Ltd. For Modifying & updation of existing road network for PWD, under MRSAC Road Information
System project. The quality & standards were accepted by MRSAC for the dynamic segmentation of road network.

Scope of Work:

1. Rectification of Raw satellite data. 2. Super imposing road network vector Map on Satellite Image. 3. Modifying & Updating of the existing road network of Maharashtra state based on available maps with MRSAC & high-resolution satellite. 4. Dynamic segmentation of updated Road Network for attaching relevant attributes. 5. Feature coding and formatting as per standards.

Criteria:

1. To do Dynamic segmentation of the road network at 1 KM interval. 2. Attaching attribute information for 80 fields in database. 3. If the segment would crossover the administrative boundaries then the dynamic segmentation should restrict the segments to individual administrative boundaries. i.e. if the road segment has 0.2 KM distance in one administrative area and the rest 0.8 KM distance crosses into another administrative area then dynamic segmentation should be such where the segment of 0.2 KM is created for case 1 & segment 0.8 KM is created for case 2.

Methodology & Procedure:

1. Georeferenced grid was prepared in ER Mapper. 2. The raster toposheet was rectified & geocoded using georeference grid in ER Mapper. The permitted RMS error value = ± 0.03.
3. On this Geographical raster topographic data, the vector data of road network was superimposed. 4. Once these were superimposed, the road network was updated by digitizing the changed road feature. Thus modified & updated spatial database for road network was created using the above method. 5. A thematic Map of Transport network was generated in ER Mapper. 6. After modification & updation of spatial vector database, Non spatial attribute information was linked to the digital vector road network 7. Dynamic segmentation of road network was performed by writing SML in Arc /Info as per the criteria given by MRSAC.

Thematic Map Generation using Remote Sensing & Image Processing:

A pilot study was undertaken for preparation of “Digital Elevation Model” using Contours from Topographic data on 1:50000 scale for Irrigation department in association with RRSSC, Nagpur.

Methodology & Procedure for DEM Preparation:

1. A Georeferenced grid was prepared in ER Mapper. 2. Rectification of the image was executed. The raster toposheet was rectified & geocoded using georeference grid in ER Mapper. Permitted RMS error value = ± 0.03. 3. From this topographic data, vector data of contours was extracted from this Topo sheet. 4. Using ER Mapper, Grided raster image was prepared. Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) method was used to prepare the grided raster image. 5. This gridded raster image was used as the height input data for viewing & displaying a 3 Dimensional view. Using this as data inputs a Digital Elevation Model was prepared in ER Mapper.
